On February 28th, 2026, Viz held its renowned Fine Arts Day, a biennial event that gives students the opportunity to enjoy a day full of creativity and artistic expression. This year, students had a blast participating in a variety of workshops. Dancing seemed to be a fan favorite, with girls preforming their newly learned routines throughout the following week. There were many classes to choose from, including crafts, hip-hop, Irish Dancing, and so much more! Towards the end of the day, the highly anticipated Trashion Show took place, with a “wedding” theme. It is safe to say that each advisory showed out and gave these outfits their all. After the Trashion show, the celebration continued with a dance party, where students and staff showcased their best moves and sang with exuberant voices.

Fine Arts Day was created about 20 years ago by our beloved teacher Mr. Strohmeyer, as a way to expose students to the wide range of art forms found around the world. Since then, the Visual and Performing Arts Department has continued this cherised tradition by inviting dozens of professional artists, actors, dancers, singers, and technicians to Visitation Academy. On this special day, there are no regular classes. Instead, students participate in thrilling workshops of their choice, led by these professionals, allowing them to explore new skills and gain inspiration. Leading up to Fine Arts Day, each advisory is given the same theme and tasked with creating a dress made entirely from trash for the Trashion Show. The girls adore this special tradition, as it allows them to showcase their creativity using discarded items.

Our students truly appreciate the opportunity to take part in Fine Arts Day. To capture their excitement, I asked a few girls about their favorite moments from this special day:

“My favorite part was the hip-hop class. It was so absolutely hilarious and a great workout, and now I have a dance routine I can whip out. I love getting to see all the different artists and their eclectic art forms!” - Caelin Vulin, Senior

“My favorite part about Fine Arts Day was being able to learn new skills with my friends. I honestly really enjoyed it because it brought me closer to people I don't usually hang out with. I would say it taught me how to work together as a team and strive for success with my fellow classmates, and I am so excited for the next time we have it!” - Scarlett Holst, Sophomore

“My favorite part of fine arts day is the trashion show. It’s cool to see other advisories take on the theme we were given and see their creations out of something as simple as trash. Leadin up to the trashion show it's a great time to bond with my advisory while we create our own piece.” - Addie Keipp, Freshman

It is clear that Fine Arts Day is a highly favored tradition at Viz, and our students eagerly look forward to the next celebration of creativity, community, and fun!
