Hot Take: Traveling for Spring Break is Overrated

Okay, I said it: spring break travel is overrated. Yeah, I said it. Everyone’s out here acting like the only way to enjoy spring break is by packing a bag and heading to some tropical destination. But let’s be real- who actually enjoys the chaos of traveling for spring break? Spoiler alert: it’s not as fun as you think.

It’s no secret that inflation has gone up. Traveling has a fat price tag that comes along with it. I mean seriously eggs and beef are hard to come by these days. Along with your trip plans for flights, hotels, and reservations. You could seriously invest in greater things like adopting a pet iguana or maybe buying 100 tacos. Traveling for spring break is like emptying your bank account into the abyss. But...staying home= zero financial crisis and forces you to truly take in and enjoy what is in your own backyard.

Next up, planning is a nightmare. The whole point of spring break is to relax, but first, you must plan the trip. Goodluck with that. Finding flights, booking hotels, agreeing with friends, and organizing everything- it’s a full-time job. You’ll spend more time stressing about your travel plans than enjoying your vacation. Then you finally get there, and you realize the rest of the world also decided to vacation to the same destination. You know what’s better than that? Staying home. No planning. No crowds. Just you and your bed, living the dream.

We all know the drill: everyone posts pictures of their “perfect” spring break on Instagram. They’re on a beach with perfect sunsets, looking like they just stepped off a travel cover magazine cover. But guess what? That’s all fake. I guarantee no one is posting a picture of themselves hoping their suitcase makes that weight limit, being pulled aside in TSA, or sitting in the airport for hours. It’s truly all a lie! So, skip the pressure, stay home, wear sweatpants. Way more authentic

In conclusion: skip the hype. Look, traveling for spring break doesn’t have to be the highlight of your year. Sometimes the best vacation is the one where you don’t leave your house. So, skip the masses of people, the overpriced plans, and the constant stress of travel. Just kick back, relax, and let everyone else deal with the chaos. You’ve got yourself, your couch, and a whole lot of Netflix to catch up on.
