Mastering the Nap

A well-executed nap refreshes you and helps you survive until bedtime, but a bad nap can leave you feeling incredibly confused and annoyed. Napping should come naturally—if you feel sleepiness coming on, be ready. Step 1: Location. Get yourself into a cozy and slightly cool spot. My personal favorite is on top of my bed with two comfy blankets. Another important factor is lighting: if it's too dark, you might struggle to wake up; if it's too bright, you won’t fall asleep at all. I recommend using a dim lamp or warm fairy lights. Step 2: Falling Asleep. Focus on something small, like scrolling through TikTok's of rain or reading a calming book. When your eyelids start feeling heavy, that’s your moment. A slight stretch can help; after that, snuggle up, close your eyes, and let yourself drift away. Step 3: The Wake Up. Here’s the trickiest part. Most people make the common mistake of setting an alarm—NEVER do this. If you set an alarm, you’ll wake up before your nap naturally ends, leaving you feeling annoyed and in a bad mood. Allowing yourself to wake up slowly and naturally is the only way to do it. Congrats! You’re now ready to take a perfect nap that fills you with all the happy hormones!
