With the popularity of “DracoTok,” (Draco Malfoy TikTok), the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is making a fierce comeback in pop culture, just in time for Halloween. Because of this massive explosion in interest of Harry Potter, many people are returning to the Wizarding World site to get resorted into their Hogwarts houses. Some people are even getting sorted for the first time! And while getting sorted into your own house is fun, it’s even more exciting to see what houses some of our favorite faculty and staff get sorted into! But first, a little background on each of the four houses: Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and Slytherin.

Hufflepuff was founded by medieval witch Helga Hufflepuff. It is a very inclusive house, the most out of all four, and values dedication, hard work, loyalty, fair play, and patience. Yellow and black are the house colors and the symbolic animal of the house is a badger. The house corresponds to the element of earth (yellow for wheat and black for soil). Hufflepuffs are commonly not as competitive as other people and are modest about their accomplishments. They also have a strong moral code and are known to value everyone. Famous wizarding world Hufflepuffs include Cedric Diggory, Nymphadora Tonks, and Pomona Sprout.

Ravenclaw was founded by another medieval witch, Rowena Ravenclaw. Members of this house are known for their wit, wisdom, and learning. Blue and bronze are the house colors and the symbolic animal of the house is an eagle. The house corresponds to the element of air (blue for the sky and bronze for eagle feathers). Many Ravenclaws are very academically motivated and talented students, sometimes sacrificing their own social life for the sake of education. They are also known to be highly curious about the world around them. Famous Wizarding World Ravenclaws include Luna Lovegood, Cho Chang, and Garrick Ollivander.

Gryffindor was founded by Godric Gryffindor. Gryffindors are valued for their courage, chivalry, and determination. Scarlet and gold are the house colors and the symbolic animal of the house is a lion. The house corresponds to the element of fire, (scarlet for fire and gold for the lion). Members of this house are brave, although sometimes reckless and short-tempered. They are always willing to save anyone or anything and will be the first to volunteer every time. They have a long-lasting rivalry with Slytherin house. Famous Gryffindors include Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, the Weasley family, Neville Longbottom, and Albus Dumbledore.

Slytherin was founded by Salazar Slytherin. Slytherins are cunning, resourceful, strong, and ambitious leaders. Green and silver are the house colors and the symbolic animal of the house is a snake. The house corresponds to the element of water (green for water around lakes and lochs and silver for grey rainwater). Slytherins are known to hesitate before acting so that they can weigh all of their outcomes and chose the best possible one for the situation. Slytherins are also known for being clever and achievement oriented. They are very strong leaders, self-assured, confident, and can be very loyal. A common misconception is that Slytherins are evil, and while most Dark Lords have come out of Slytherin house, not all Slytherins are inherently bad. Famous Slytherins include Draco Malfoy, Lord Voldemort, Bellatrix Lestrange, and Dolores Umbridge.

Now that you have a brief background of each of the houses, the fun part begins! I emailed a few members of the faculty and staff here at Viz with the link to the official sorting quiz and let them take it from there. And just like in the movies and books, there were a few shocks along the way. Here are the results:

Hufflepuff:

  • Mr. Colon

  • Mrs. Hadlow

  • Dr. Goldkamp

  • Mrs. Stenger

Ravenclaw:

  • Mrs. Benigno

  • Mr. McKeever

  • Mrs. Shortt

  • Mrs. Enger

  • Mr. Strohmeyer

  • Mrs. Wilson

  • Ms. Hartenbach

Gryffindor:

  • Mrs. Gill

  • Mr. Cogan

  • Mr. Chiodini

Slytherin:

  • Mr. Morrow

Some of these might have been shocking to you, but if you really consider the teachers' personalities, they all make sense. After all, the Sorting Hat is never wrong! While these are just a few teachers, we can use the traits mentioned above and apply them to other people we know, or even ourselves! But in case you don’t feel like playing a guessing game, you can click here to take the official sorting quiz on your own.

Have a safe and happy Halloween!
