The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

By Riley Ehlermann '21

Kirti Madhu and I are leading a team of Viz girls in a program sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society called Student of the Year. In this program, students around the country try to raise as much money as we can in seven weeks for LLS in order to continue the search for a cure to cancer. LLS’s work has changed the lives of 1.2 million Americans living with blood and other types of cancers.

Kirti and I both heard of this program through Mrs. Benigno and Mrs. Essig and immediately found interest in it. We both have had relatives fight, survive, and pass due to various forms of cancer. We have seen the pain and heartbreak that comes with cancer affect both the patient and the family. Because of this, we want to do everything we can to alleviate some of their struggles. Our team, Gateway to a Cure, has just begun our seven weeks of raising funds and awareness and want to spread the word about what LLS is and their mission: finding a cure to cancer.

However, we cannot do it without help from our friends, family, and Viz community. If you would like to know more about LLS please visit their website https://www.lls.org/. You can also keep up with our fundraising on our Instagram @gatewaytoacure. If you would like to donate to our team please use these links below, anything helps!
