  • Rating Different Quesos

One thing about me is that I love going to Mexican restaurants. Whenever I go to these restaurants, I always make sure to order chips and queso. Today I will be giving you my opinions on different queso in STL. El Maguey El Maguey is a staple for many lovers of Mexican food. With many different locations, the classic restaurant is easily accessible. I think that El Maguey is a reliable restaurant with reasonable prices. Although this is true, depending on the location, sometimes the queso can be hit or miss. I give El Maguey's queso a 6/10. 2. Charro Mexican Restaurant Although it is somewhat underground, Charro is one of my favorite restaurants. The family environment is always very welcoming and the workers are always incredibly kind. I can always count on Charro to provide me delicious food to eat with friends and family. I would rate Charro's queso a 8/10. 3. Rosalita's Cantina The well-loved restaurant across all of St. Louis will not disappoint. Rosalita's is a beautiful restaurant with an incredible environment both indoors and outdoors. Along with this, their food is amazing. I have never been disappointed by their queso. I would rate Rosalita's queso a 10/10. 4. El Burro Loco El Burro Loco is an incredible establishment. The restaurant's environment is always incredibly lively, and it is impossible to become bored. The queso can be top tier. While this is true, it can sometimes be hit or miss, depending on the business. I rate El Burro Loco's queso a 7.5/10. I hope you enjoyed my rating of different quesos across St. Louis. I hope that you can now grow inspired to branch out and try somewhere new. Happy eating!

  • Spirit Week Inspo

Spirit Week is quickly approaching which means time to start planning the best and craziest outfits. Everyone must go all out this year because dressing up and showing support for Viz is so fun! I'm here to give you some Inspo for costumes/ outfits this year. The theme is Viz in the spotlight and there are so many options to dress up as, but I will give you a couple The first day of Spirit week is Movie Monday. There are so many options to choose from. I would try and think of your favorite movie, then try to recreate your favorite character and maybe have a friend join you. I think you could dress up as any Disney movies like any princess. I also think funny movies such as the Three Stooges, Clueless, or even Legally Blonde. Any movie you like can be recreated to look amazing! 2. The second day of Spirit Week is Touchdown Tuesday. In my opinion, you can either dress up as a player from your favorite sports team or just wear team merch. Some popular players to dress up as right now are Travis Kelce, Messi, Lebron James, and Serena Williams. 3. The third day of Spirit Week is Watch Party Wednesday. Dress up as your favorite characters from your favorite reality shows or TV shows. Some examples for group costumes are the Kardashians and Dance Moms. You could also dress up as your favorite TV show growing up like Jessie or Liv and Maddie. The possibilities are endless with this day. 4. The fourth day of Spirit week is Red Carpet Thursday. Dress up as your favorite celebrity or a celebrity that may look like you. Some ideas are Dwane Johnson, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, and Justin Bieber. This would also be a great duo costume that you could do with a friend. I hope you find my Spirit Week Inspo helpful and hope you got some good ideas for next week!

  • AirPods vs. Beats

I'm a big music listener. I like to enjoy my tunes periodically throughout the day. This also means I have cycled through many different types of headphones, from wired apple headphones, to wireless Bluetooth beats, and the classic air pods and airpod pros. Many people ask me, "Abby which type of headphone do you prefer?", which has led me to go through the indefinite pros and cons of this advanced wireless technology. Beats cons: A bit chunky: if I want to fall asleep to my tunes in a room full of loud people, it is hard to sleep on my preferred left side due to the bulkiness and uncomfortableness these headphones give me. Pain: after hours of prolonged use, these start to make the outside of my ears feel heavy and have a ringing pain on the outside. Together: I either have to be all in or all out when listening to my tunes. I can't just have the music going through one ear while I have a conversation or go on with my day without looking stupid by having one ear covered but the other one isn't Beats pros: Stability: when I workout, they do not fall off my head, and I am fully locked into my music. Quality: good quality sound, especially if I want to tune everyone around me out, because they are noise cancelling. Battery life: Last a very long time after being charged Airpod cons: Security: They fall out of ears if not secure Battery Life: Battery does not last more than day when charged Small size: Easy to lose because of their small size, also very easy to get mixed up with other people's Pain: they can cause a pain on the inside of the ear after hours of prolonged use Airpod pros: Small size: Small size makes it easy to listen to music without people noticing Flexibility: Can listen to a song in one ear and not the other, allowing background noise Many options: Different kinds of audio settings, noise control, clear, or stabilize Easy to sleep in: Can fall asleep with them in, because they are so small I am able to sleep on my preferred left side and have the airpod in my right ear, allowing me to fall asleep to my calming playlist

  • Rating Golden Globe Outfits

Every year the Golden Globes have something new in store: from touching acceptance speeches to relationship confirmations. One thing we can count on are the stunning outfits, or sometimes fashion fails. Margot Robbie rocked another pink ensemble, this time from Georgio Armani. Margot continues to advertise her movie, Barbie, with styles reminiscent of the icon. Some say two years of marketing is enough and look is getting old, but I think she just looks great in pink! 8/10 Natalie Portman showed off this diamond encrusted dress from Dior, a brand she had been an ambassador for many years now. The detail work is reminiscent of Monet, with the stippling of color. I just can't seem to take my eyes off the dress! 10/10 Karen Gillian, an actress in the Guardian's of the Galaxy franchise, debuted this Iris van Herpen outfit. While the scales seem intricate, the design seems of bit off. Are they fish scales, bird feathers, or one of those optical illusions? 3/10 Jennifer Lawrence showed up wearing a timeless Dior gown. Jennifer's hair and makeup look flawless and glamorous, leveling up her simple dress. I think Jennifer rocks more simple looks, like during the 2011 Academy Awards. Way to rock another one! 9/10 Barry Keoghan showed up to the ceremony in the this decked out look from Louis Vuitton. The color is striking and possibly likeable if the pattern wasn’t so distracting. I would have even loved the accessorizing had the suit been more toned down. Barry is 5"8 and the length of his suit jacket is not doing him any favors. The avantgarde outfits may have worked in Saltburn, but not on this red carpet. 1/10 Timothee Chalamet wore this stunning suit by the French brand Celine. The all black color really helps the sparkles catch your eye. Timmy seems to keep with his trend of forgetting his tie, but we aren't complaining! 8/10

  • Viz takes on ThesCon

The Missouri State Thespian Conference, aka Thes Con, is an event that takes place every January for theater kids across the state of Missouri. For three days, students have the opportunity to take classes, watch and perform in shows, and meet other people who share similar interests as themselves. This year, Mr. Strohmeyer, Mrs. Isom, Miss Haney, Mrs. Bryant, and Mr. Harley took a group of 30 Viz students to Kansas City for the weekend of a lifetime. The girls spent their days taking various masterclasses including dance workshops, circus skills, special effects makeup, jump roping, improv, and so many more while exploring the Power and Light district of the city. They also had the opportunity to watch three mainstage productions which were performed by different high schools across the state. The girls saw “Mean Girls,” “The Taming of the Shrew,” and “The Glass Menagerie.” Thes Con 2024 brought many great opportunities for the Viz girls to share their talents with everyone else. A group of students participated in the Tech Challenge, a timed event in which the team has to complete tasks such as moving props, helping with a quick change, rolling rope, etc., in the quickest time they can. Cate Trachsel, Nidhi Tangirala, Lizzy Forget, and Sandra Kim participated for Viz and were very successful, completing each task with lightning speed. In addition, the conference opening number welcomed our very own Emma Wyeth and Meredith Zaegel to the stage as they got the opportunity to work with choreographers and students from across the state to perform dances to “Interplanet Janet” and “Time Warp” for those attending the conference. Emma even got to be a part of a special tap section, letting her talents shine. Mr. Strohmeyer and Mrs. Isom have the honor of directing and choreographing the Missouri All State show for 2025. During the conference, the two held auditions and casted the show “Sweet Charity” to be rehearsed over the summer and performed at next years conference. Congrats to Lizzy Forget, who was chosen to be the shows assistant technical director. Thes Con is an experience the theater vivettes look forward to each year and can’t wait to see the conference brought back to St. Louis next January.

  • Best Christmas Movies

Hello Vivettes! The Holiday season has just begun! I am so excited for Christmas and for all of the festivities that come along with Christmas. One of the best festivities to do around the holiday season is watching Christmas movies. I love watching as many Christmas movies as I can in the short time that we are "supposed" to be watching them. I have seen so many that you can take my word on the suggestions that I am about to give you. You can watch these movies with friends or family and these are the classic Christmas movies that everyone must see in their lifetime. They will get you in the Holiday spirit and remind you what the true meaning of Christmas is. My favorite Christmas movie of all time has to be How The Grinch Stole Christmas, but not the animated one. This is my favorite Christmas movie because the whole storyline is told so well in the movie, and the settings and characters in the non-animated movie are so good. I grew up watching this movie and continue to watch it multiple times every year because it is just that good. You can watch with family, friends, your significant other, and even little kids. This should definitely on the top of the list for must watch Christmas movies this season. My second favorite Christmas movie that most people have already seen and love is Elf. I have already seen this movie this holiday season and it can never get old. I love Will Farrell as an actor and he does such a good job as Buddy in the movie. This movie can definitely get a few laughs from you and your friends and family. Overall, it is a very wholesome Christmas movie that everyone much watch every holiday season. I really hope that you love these movies as much as I do. These Christmas movies are such classics and even though you may have seen them a million times, you can never get enough of How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Elf!

  • The Best Christmas Song

As everyone knows, Christmas is full of many festive traditions. One of these traditions is wondrous Christmas carols. I love many of the traditional Christmas songs. Although this is true, my favorite Christmas carol has only been out since 2011. If you have not, I beg you to listen to Drummer Boy by Justin Bieber ft. Busta Rhymes. There are many different reasons for this song being so amazing. The catchy beat: The song's upbeat tune keeps you listening throughout all 12 months of the year. The lyricism: Not only is the song beautifully crafted, but it highlights the importance of giving and happiness during the Christmas season. For example: "It's about time for you to act merrily, It's about time for you to give to charity". Different take on a traditional song: Justin Bieber takes a classic song and makes it even better. Allusions to the bible and Jesus: The song mentions Jesus, which we know is the real reason we celebrate the holiday. I hope that after reading this article you will grow a new appreciation for the best Christmas song to exist.

  • Christmas Gift Guide

Hi Vivettes! Now that VP is over (and we don't have to worry about buying $80 dresses) it's time to get hype from Christmas. Personally, I have not done any shopping yet, and I have a lot of gifts to get. Deciding what to get everyone in your life for Christmas can be difficult. But today, I am here to help. I've been told that I am a pretty good gift giver, and I pride myself in that. Here are some ideas to help you out this holiday season. Mom: It is very important you get your mom a good gift. I know my mom puts so much work in every Christmas to make sure everyone has an amazing day. My go to gift is a set of candles. You HAVE to get at least three of each sent so every room in the house smells the same. Another idea is some Viz merch! My mom loves to rep Visitation Academy, and I'm sure yours would too. Dad: You could go with the obvious choice: a couple of ties. That's pretty much what I get my dad every year. If you can think of something sentimental between you and your dad, I would take that route. As teenage girls it's typical for our dads to feel disconnected, so something special will surely make him happy. Sibling: Personally, my brothers and I don't do big gifts. I normally spring for a hoodie or sweatpants from Dick's. Candy is a good add on. Best friend: For a best friend, it's best to get sentimental. A framed photo or a photo album is a nice idea. You also could just ask your friend what they want because it's less serious with them. That's what I normally do. Significant other: This should be the gift you put the most thought into. The gift needs to be special. For a girl, a nice piece of jewelry, perfume, or a pair of shoes should suffice. For a guy, clothes are the way to go. Most guys don't have style, and as a girlfriend, it is your job to help him out. You could also get something that you and your partner can do together, like baking supplies. Additionally, you should include a nice note or card to tell them you love them. I hope this gift guide helps you this season. Don’t wait too long to start shopping!

  • Viz Girls Take on YAG

Over the past weekend, the Viz girls Yagged it up at the 75th Annual Youth and Government Lewis Convention, taking place in Jefferson City. While there, the Viz girls wrote and passed bills, argued case law, and ran and won elections. It was an extremely sucessful trip, with two Viz bills being passed, one by Mallory Hanock and Isabella Espana, and the other by Maggie Kiley and Lily Cofer. In the Judicial Area, two Viz girls become finalists, Elizabeth Anyimadu and Eve Trudeaux-Curtis. Over the course of the convention, Emma Williams and Marian Williams worked extremely hard running two campaigns, one for Attorney General and the other for Speaker of the House. Eventually all of their hard worked paid off, and the 2 Viz girls turned into 2 out of the 7 Presiding Officers that help plan and create the convention. The highlight of the weekend though, was not winning the cases, it was not passing the bills or judging the use of case-law, it was the highly coveted YAGSTER. The YAGSTERS theme this year was America, and boy did I feel lucky for the land of the free and the home of the brave after seeing the Viz girls outfits. I personally wore my favorite American Flag suspenders and rocked them for all of the convention to see. After reflecting on the bridges that were built, the elections that were won, the Yagsters that did party, and the bills that were passed, I can wholeheartedly say this was one of my favorite conventions, and I cannot wait for the next one.

  • Thanksgiving Takes

Thanksgiving is the time of year where family gets together and shares a feast. However, the company of family is important, the food is one of largest parts of Thanksgiving. Typically, families will have turkey, cranberries, some sort of veggies, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, and some sort of casserole/mac and cheese. Nobody ever discusses the rank of these foods or their favorites that are on the table. Personally, a controversial take on the Thanksgiving table is that stuffing is one of the worst items on the table, followed by cranberry sauce. The best food items on the table are rolls and turkey. Turkey is the higharchy of the thanksgiving table and is a staple. Rolls are simple, but everybody appreciates a warm roll with butter. The other foods serve as side dishes to Turkey and are not significant to the ranking. Although this may be a controversial opinion, Thanksgiving is an important holiday that depends on the food placed on the table. So instead of overlooking Thanksgiving food, consider your favorite this year!

  • Run Turkey Run

We've all heard of the barbaric tale of the Thanksgiving event called the "Turkey Trot." Families wake up at the crack of dawn, dress in multiple layers, and brace the outdoors to run 3.5 miles. It's crazy to think that one would do this, but the reality? Many do. My family and I are more of the wake up at 11:30, stay in our pajamas, and stuff our faces with food kind of people. If I was woken up before it was light outside on any given day, I would automatically assume I was being kidnapped. If you told me you woke me up to run 3 and a half miles? I would believe this was a nightmare. I envy those people who have the ability to do anything remotely active on a day I believe to be about rest and relaxation. However, our fellow Vivettes who do partake in this Turkey Trot are true examples of the dedication and grit us Owls have. For those who will be running their feathers off this Thanksgiving, remember to be Salesian in victory, for we know that Viz will obviously be on top.

  • Junior Trip to DC

Over the past weekend, many of the junior class members ventured to Washington DC for their long awaited grade-wide trip. While there, we visited many important museums, such as The Museum of African-American History and Culture, as well as the Holocaust Museum. We saw many cool artifacts and monuments such as the Martin Luther King Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial; all located at the National Mall, which (to my surprise), was not actually a mall! There was great food, great company, and amazing chaperones that helped make the trip 1000% better! While walking through the streets of DC, the entire class decided to go crazy for Pokemon Go...it was truly an inspiring experience. New Poke experts such as PieFace4959 rose from the shadows and claimed Pokemon as their own! The weather was perfect the entire time we were there, and I know most of the juniors loved sitting out in the nice weather on hard concrete waiting over an hour for their lost bus. I personally was on the good bus, so I took a nice nap at the hotel while they waited, which was probably one of the best parts of the trip! Additionally, while there, the Viz girls met the Visi girls of Georgetown Visitation. At Georgetown, we got a tour of the school, and we went to an ASL mass, celebrated by a deaf Priest. At Mass we learned phrases such as "and with your spirit" and "Christ/Lord have mercy" in ASL, which was extremely cool! My favorite part of the trip, besides the interesting Museums and incredible sights, was watching my new favorite show, The Golden Bachelor. This show is unlike any other reality/bachelor show I've seen, and I 10/10 recommend!! #teamfaithandgerry In closing, the 11th Grade DC trip was unforgettable, and I am so grateful that I along with other junior girls got to go!
